Our Plans for the Weekend

Friday, July 23 — Meet & Greet

We start the weekend on a rooftop with downtown Detroit spread out below us. No agenda, no program, just the first round of hugs and the first round of "you got tall." Come when you get in — some of you will have driven eight hours and some of you live twenty minutes away, and everybody lands eventually. Location and time are still being finalized, so watch this page.

Saturday, July 24 — William G. Milliken State Park

Saturday is the day. Charter buses run from the hotel out to William G. Milliken State Park and Harbor, and from eleven to three the riverfront is ours — fish fry, barbecue, family games, and a few hours by the water with people you don't see enough. Afterward the day opens up. Some of us will head to the Motown Museum or the Charles H. Wright, some to the Henry Ford, and some straight back to the hotel for a nap. Come evening, take your pick: a bar crawl for the younger crowd, an R&B and blues lounge, or a comedy club. More on all of that as plans firm up.

Sunday, July 25 — Worship

We close the weekend together in worship. It's the quiet end to a loud three days, and for a lot of the family it's the part they remember longest — everybody in one room, one last time, before the drive home. Church and service time will be announced soon. After that, breakfast, goodbyes, and see you at the next one.

Family Worship Service

We close the weekend together in worship. It's the quiet end to a loud three days, and for a lot of the family it's the part they remember longest — everybody in one room, one last time, before the drive home.

Church location and service time to be announced.

Hilton Garden Inn

The Hilton Garden Inn Downtown Detroit is our host hotel for the weekend — walkable to downtown, and the pickup point for Saturday's buses to Belle Isle. Rooms in our family block are $235 a night plus tax.

Book early, and we mean it. The committee has reserved a block of 20 rooms, and we have to fill at least 16 of them to hold the agreement. Fall short and the family takes a penalty. Fill it fast and we can ask for more rooms if we need them.

Reservation deadline: Saturday, May 22, 2027
